The St. Michael Housing Society Cottages in Penzance
Francine Drew

My husband, myself and 13 month old daughter moved into our first house with St Michael Housing in 1970.

The cottages were sought after for housing in the town and immediately we were made to feel welcome by all the neighbours who offered help if needed.

All the children played together and in the summers had a big paddling pool in the middle of the courtyard. We all loved it. In 1980 our son was born and he also joined in when he was old enough. In 1989 we outgrew the property and moved into a new cottage across the courtyard.

Over the years, we have seen people come and go, and most of the original tenants have moved on, but the community feeling is still there. With the arrival of new tenants, more get togethers are organised for everyone to attend if they want to.

St Michael Housing are very good at keeping the houses up to a first class condition. We don’t have to wait long for problems to be sorted out.

We have lived here for 52 years and couldn’t envisage living anywhere else.
